New Bristol Sinfonia - Archive
Jason Lai, Associate Conductor with the BBC Philharmonic, joins us as guest conductor for this concert, to include Mahler's First Symphony "Titan": full of energy and irony - a startling original composition that earned him both hostility and ridicule. This is preceded by Wagner's deeply emotional Prelude and Liebestod from the story of the tragic love of Tristan and Isolde. The concert kicks off with Brahms' famous Academic Festival Overture; "a potpourri of German student songs celebrating the less intellectual aspects of college life".
