Next concert: English GreatsWalton's dramatic first symphony cemented his reputation as one of Europe's finest composers, drawing critical comparison to his great predecessor Edward Elgar, whose worldwide fame was set with Enigma Variations, the charming, witty, and ultimately moving portraits of his closest friends. Britten's exact and brilliant re-workings of old folksongs kicks off this celebration of all things English. Date: Saturday 9 October, 2004 Programme:
